J.-Clod Baumgarten, WTTC president says Russia in the world tourism may gain the most stable position and even to become the leader of the field. “Russia has the sufficient potential to become the leading country in the sphere of tourism and traveling”.

According to the WTTC figures the number of people involved in tourism industry will reach 863.000 and the share of tourism in GDP is at least 357.1 billion rubles. The WTTC predicts these figures constantly to increase.

Internal research

However investigations made by Russian organizations shows that the internal tourism lacks both quantitative and qualitative development indices. The main factors restraining the growth of the in-coming tourism are:
 • The current visa regime which is safe in immigration terms seems to be not very attractive for foreign tourists.
 • The absence of expanded tourism advertisement abroad, simple publicity campaigns.

Progress tendencies

The creation of highly effective and competitive tourist complex which will be able to meet home and foreign tourists’ requirements in different services is the prior aim of the country tourist policy. The main task is to form a modern marketing strategy to push the tourist product properly on the world markets. This requires certain steps to be made first of all:
 • To shoot a set of documentaries and TV programs and organize regular publicity campaigns for the mass media.
 • To create posters, tourist guides, maps and the like info-printing goods.
 • To hold world-wild exhibitions
 • To maintain and refresh the Internet information platform focusing on the national tourism
 • To provide  foreign representatives’ activity both within the country and abroad
 • Effective managing of the restaurants and hotels field
 • To create favourable conditions for foreign investors to put money into tourist’s sphere

New high standards are required to be set to keep to the world qualitative demands.

Ecotourism

This kind of tourism is constantly gaining admires and becoming more and more popular nowadays. Tired of hustle and bustle of cities people prefer to spend their holidays as close to nature as possible.
Russia is one of the richest countries I natural resources its extended territory provide numerous opportunities to develop country and ecotourism.
The Siberia seems to be the most appropriate place for these purposes. Wonderful natural conditions, forests, lakes, fields – unsurpassed landscape and scenery. Rare animals, fish and plants species will impress even the most experienced and well versed tourist. The settlements where people still preserve ancient traditions and customs may be of a great interest for foreign tourists who like exotic things.
